The day X471 BJB nearly knocked me off
Commuting to work through Bradford on Thursday 29th September X417 BJB came within inches of knocking me off, 7.30am approximately.
I had just come out of Bowling Park and was on the roundabout. He was coming down the hill. He didn't even see me as he was looking down the road and was intent on going the wrong way (i.e. right) around the mini roundabout, trying to save valuable seconds. I braced myself for a roll over his bonnet. To my amazement he managed to stop. My handbars and frame must have scraped his bonnet, meanwhile I received minor abrasions on my left leg where his bumper had come to rest. Literally another foot further and I would have been flipped on to his bonnet.
What did he do? He sped off. The funniest thing about the incident was he must have seen me reading his number plate..... so he wiggled the car to try and avoid detection. At this point I had no idea whether my bike had been damaged. Needless to say he was a young, male driver who seemed to think he could use the highway as a race track and impress his female passenger.
Whilst the Government is doing all it can to get people fit, it is doing nothing to educate drivers in SMIDSY. I take this route because it is the safest across Bradford. I reported the incident to a friendly policeman who was cycling up from Nelson Street. He told me he had nearly been knocked off too!

YN04 FUJ
Volkwagon Silver Golf, Sunday 24th September about 7.15pm, near the Wakefield Trinity Ground (A638)
Five of us cycling neatly, all in a straight line. Clearly not good enough for YN04 FUJ who decided to blast his horn all the way as he past us.
The only explanation I can think of is the driver's a moron!

YS03 MKW
At 6pm cycling into Brighouse from Queensbury the passenger in YS03 MKW, a boy-racer chav-mobile, decided it would be a good idea to reach out and grab the sleeve of my cycling jacket as they were going past. This was in a 40 limit, so I can only assume they were doing 40mph. I was doing 15-20mph. I was doing nothing wrong, minding my own business. Fortunately this did not impede my progress but could have turned out much worse.
I decided to give chase to catch the chav-mobile at the lights. I don't think they expected a cyclist doing 30mph frothing at the mouth catching them up as they got stuck behind other cars. Unfortnately the chav-mobile turned off at the junction with Lightcliffe Grammar School. Cowards!

T915 OHD - red Vauxhall / Barnsley
Today's incident is dedicated to T915 OHD. Frustrated behind another driver waiting for an overtake, the red Vauxhall came barrelling past blarring the horn with the female passenger shouting the window that well known cliche "Single file." Actually, cyclists are quite entitled to ride two abreast (there is nothing contrary to it in the Highway Code) and had thinned out as the road narrowed. BTW, what the Highway Code DOES say is "do not use your horn as a form of retribution".
A few minutes later we came across the same vehicle. It had caused an obstruction in the road. As the driver was unable to park directly outside the house they intended to visit (to drop something off I presume) it was abandoned in the road. Effectively this was triple parking. How ironic! We have standards here, TWO!
So, today's award for ignorant and impatient driving goes to T915 OHD.
